Local business leaders urged to sample services of world's largest chief executives' organisation

Harrogate business leaders are being urged to attend an event showcasing the services of the world’s leading chief executives’ development organisation.

Vistage UK is staging a taster morning on Wednesday 24 February at the offices of top local law firm Davidson Large, in Royal House, Station Parade.

The organisation is part of Vistage International, which boasts more than 16,000 members,  with combined turnovers in excess of £200bn, worldwide. Members’ companies typically grow nearly three times faster than competitors.

Vistage, which has operated in the UK for over 20 years, focuses on leaders in small-to- medium-sized businesses, irrespective of sector. Its leadership development model includes confidential monthly peer–group meetings, at which senior people from non-competing businesses help each other solve problems and exploit opportunities.

The Vistage service also includes executive coaching, expert speaker presentations and an exclusive online business community, called the Vistage Advantage.

Central to the organisation’s offering are its local chairs - seasoned chief executives, top consultants and business coaches, picked from a cross-section of sectors for their ability to help executives build better companies and improve their lives. In addition to chairing peer group meetings, each works one-to-one with members to provide advice, insight and support.

Harrogate is already a hotbed of Vistage activity, boasting three groups, the oldest dating back to 2002. These contain more than a quarter of the organisation’s 100-plus Yorkshire members.

The taster session at Davidson Large begins with a light breakfast at 8am, the formal part starting at 8.30 and concluding with a sandwich lunch at 12.50. Business leaders interested in attending can contact Peter Chambers, the local chair spearheading the event, on 07850 719759 or via pjc@pro-ac.com.

Mr Chambers, also managing director of Harrogate-based Pro-Active Peak Performance, said: “The session will allow attendees to experience just how powerful tackling business issues via one of our peer groups is. Following a number of proven Vistage processes, we’ll address live problems guests are experiencing. Delegates will leave with much clearer courses of action in mind and an understanding of a highly effective business process they can implement in their own companies.

“The morning will therefore demonstrate the Vistage philosophy that, although you have to implement actions solving problems yourself, you don’t have to develop these remedies alone. As a business leader, you may feel you’re strong, but by combining with your peers you become even more powerful.”

Davidson Large managing partner Russell Davidson has been a Vistage member for three years.

He said: “I’m delighted to be hosting this event, as Vistage has been fantastic for me. I‘d  urge anyone interested in top class business mentoring to attend this meeting, as all local members have seen their businesses grow, speak highly of their experience and value their association with the organisation.

“The peer group meetings we’ll be demonstrating never fail to produce effective, workable solutions that businesses seeking inspiration can implement immediately. It’s not inaccurate to think of a peer group as your personal board of directors – outside your business but sharing its goals.

“A key reason for this success is the Vistage chairs all have records of achievement in business - having run and grown companies - and undergo rigorous and continuous training to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date. They therefore stand in complete contrast to the many so-called business consultants who’ve never run a successful organisation themselves.”
